Chubby Checker, born Ernest Evans, made his way into the music industry when his boss, a storeowner of a produce market, arranged a private recording for Dick Clark. Checker recorded a yuletide novelty tune entitled “Jingle Bells,” on which he did several impressions of top selling recording stars. Dick Clark sent the recording out as a Christmas greeting to all his friends and associates in the music business. Checker’s holiday tunes paved his way and allowed him to sing his first hit entitled “The Class.” In June 1959, Checker recorded the hit single “The Twist” and introduced the world to a new dance concept. Over the next few years, Chubby released a string of hits including “Pony Time,” “Don’t Knock The Twist,” and “Twist Around The Clock.” In the fall of 1961, Checker made record industry history when his original hit “The Twist” re-entered the chards and by January of 1962 it hit number one. Throughout his career, Checker is the only artist to have five albums in the Top 12 at one time. Today, Checker continues 40 years of live performances while releasing new music. His latest single, “Limbo Rock Re-Mixes” and album The Original Master of the Dance Hall Beat graced the Billboard charts and attracted a new generation of Chubby Checker fans.

Wanting to follow in the steps of the musical genius of Elvis Presley, Charlie Daniels formed a rock-and-roll band shortly after graduating high school in 1955. Skilled on guitar, fiddle and mandolin, Daniels’ music is an exciting mix of rock, country, bluegrass, blues and gospel. Following short-lived runs with other record companies, Epic Records signed him to its rock roster in 1976. Daniels’ contract, reportedly worth $3 million, was the largest ever given to a Nashville act until that time. In 1976, Daniels recorded the chart topping single “The Devil Went Down To Georgia.” The hit went platinum, topped both country and pop charts, won a Grammy Award, earned three Country Music Association trophies, became an international phenomenon and propelled Daniels’ album triple platinum. In April 1998, top stars and two former presidents paid tribute to Daniels when he was named the recipient of the Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award. On Jan. 19, 2008, Daniels’ lifelong dream became a reality when he was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
